DJ Bonebrake

DJ was born in Burbank CA and grew up in North Hollywood. He began playing drums at age 12 and gained experience playing in marching bands, Valley Youth Orchestra, other community orchestras, rock and roll bands, jazz groups, and percussion ensembles. In the late 1970's DJ joined a band called The Eyes which included Charlotte Caffey (later of the Go-Go's) and vocalist/guitarist Joe Ramirez. John Doe and Exene asked DJ to join X in early 1978.

In addition to the drum kit DJ plays marimba, percussion, and vibraphone. A special project is his Latin Jazz Ensemble, Superstring, in which he plays vibraphone, with Pauyl Eckman on bass, Mike Bolger on horns and accordion, Danny Frankel on bongos/percussion, Don Heffington on congas, Woody Jackson on guitar, Kerry Fosse on guitar, and Victor Bissetti on percussion. The band recently played the Knitting Factory in Hollywood and is compiling records for release at a later date.

Other current projects :
The long awaited new CD by the Knitters (D.J. Bonebrake, Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Dave Alvin, and Johnny Ray Bartel) will be completed by the end of the summer and released early next year. Expect a Knitters tour in Feb.-March 2005.

X's "Greatest Hits" album will be released in June/July.

Also DJ's two jazz bands in which he plays vibraphone are gigging regularly around Los Angele : The Bonebrake Syncopators and Orchestra Superstring.
