London International Music Show 2008

The London International Music Show (LIMS) was held at the London Excel Centre from June 12 - 15th.

This show included four sub shows: 1) London Guitar Show, 2) Drummer Live, 3) Sound and Recording and 4) the technology show, Unplugged. MAPEX's UK distributor had a strong presence with the biggest booth in the percussion hall and about 20 sets on display. Six sets, one for each of the different MAPEX series, were in their own sound proof rooms. This way people could really hear the great sound of a MAPEX drum, even the entry level series.

With a mic on the bass drum and an ambient mic, the sound proof room not only provided visitors with a great opportunity to hear the MAPEX sound, it also gave visitors the experience of playing in a quality environment. “You could tell from the expression on their faces how much people enjoyed playing in the rooms. During the regulated Quiet Period every hour, there were people lining up to play in the sound proof rooms,” said Martin Potts , MAPEX & Paiste Artist Relations Rep for the UK.

We recorded audio and video from the rooms and will have a video clip on the web site later. Feedback on the sound proof room was positive and players said that it really showcased the good MAPEX drum sound.

Josh and Roy Mayorga
Josh Devine, UK finalist for the MAPEX Drummer of Tomorrow event, was invited to play at LIMS’s “Drummer Live” on Sunday and he did a fantastic job. A host of international artists, including Ray Lousier from The Korn and Roy Mayorga from Stone Sour, were there watching him play and were impressed by what drumming. Josh didn't show any signs of being nervous to play in front of all these great drummers. Ray Lousier said, “He is only 16. Imagine in five more years… his hands... my god. This is kid is amazing!

Josh Devine, MAPEX drummer of Tomorrow UK Final winner
Josh performed on his own drum set, a Saturn series Green Apple Burst that looked totally stunning on stage. He uses 8", 12" and 13" toms, 14" and 16" floor toms, a 22" bass drum, a Black Panther Seamless snare and one M birch snare drum from his old drum set. His performance was just perfect. Josh started with a tune he wrote himself for this show and the did a drum solo.
